The National Agency for Personal Data Protection Marked the Data Protection Day

Prishtinë, January 28th, 2014


The National Agency for Personal Data Protection organized a conference on the day of the 28 of January – the Data Protection Day. This date corresponds with the anniversary of the signature of European Convention 108 on the Protection of Individuals in relation to automatic procession of personal data, which was for more than thirty years  the legal basis for the protection of personal data in Europe and wider.
With a welcoming speech, speaking about the role of the Agency in the protection of data, Mr. Ruzhdi Jashari greeted the present guests thanking them for participating in this event.
A speech was also held by His Excellency Mr.Jan Braathu/Ambassador of Norway; Mr. Christof Stock/Head of Cooperation/EEAS/EU, and Mr. Ahmet Isufi, Head of the Security Committee in the Assembly of Kosova.
A good part of this event’s timing was reserved for the panellists, who introduced their works on issues related to privacy and personal data protection. 
It was Mr. Mentor Hoxhaj, the Deputy Chief National Supervisor/NAPDP to open the discussion among panellists, elaborating the topic: Privacy and Applications in Smart Phones.
The Role of Civil Society in the Protection of Personal Data and Privacy was the second presentation by Ms. Sofije Kryeziu from the Kosova Centre for Security Studies;
Mr. Tanzer Abazi/DARTS unfolded a very practical material of instructive character about the safe use of Internet, with special emphasis to the electronic mail titled How to Preserve Privacy, and Mr. Andras Jori / Expert in Data Protection gave a speech related to the conference subject matter.
The distinguishing feature of this year’s event was the completion of the project ‘’My Privacy’’, organized by NAPDP and the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology. The project was of a special importance in respect of public opinion’s awareness regarding privacy and personal data protection.  Having selected ten municipalities, respectively ten schools, and the selection of students was initially made in local level, then of six best ones, three in the area of literature and three in the area of figurative art, automatically made them competitors in central level. 
Today, on 28th of January, on the Day of Data Protection upon successful completion of this project, were made public names of the six winners in central level, as following:
Winner students in essay:
1.    Agnesa Trolli, XII-6, “Gjon Buzuku” High School, Prizren;
2.    Maja Stojanović , High Medical School, Partesh;
3. Valmirë Gllareva, “Gjergj Kastrioti-Skenderbeu” High School, Drenas;
Winner students in figurative art:
1.    Arbnora Skuroshi, “Frang Bardhi” High School, Mitrovicë;
2.    Viona Hetemi, XII-3, “Bedri Pejani” High School, Pejë;
3.    Arbnor Karaliti, XII-14, “Kuvendi i Arbërit” High School, Ferizaj.
The Agency, managed to provide rewards via ‘Deloit’ Company from ‘Galaxy’ brand products, such as (mini tablets), certificates, books etc, for each of the six first places.
Upon completion of this project, Mr. Jashari handed over a gratitude certificate to His Excellency Mr. Jan Braathu/Ambassador of Norway, dedicating a special  gratitude to the representative of competing schools that gave their contribution in carrying out this awareness project named ‘My ’Privacy’’.
In the very end Mr. Jashari thanked the participants in this set up, wishing them the best of success invited them to further cooperate in the issue of data protection and privacy.
The conference ended in a rich cocktail and finger-food served for the guests in the hall in front of ‘Dyar’ Conference Hall of Swiss Diamond Hotel.
