The National Agency for the Protection of Personal Data made successful conclusion of Privacy Week

Since the end of the last year, the Agency has started the activity in giving lessons in the High Schools of twenty Municipalities of Kosovo, which at the same time marked the beginning of the awareness campaign “Privacy in the Digital Age”. After the conclusion of this awareness mission, the Agency has organized the Privacy Week, within which it is organized a Round Table with the topic “The Balance of Data Protection and Freedom of Information” which a day later was followed by the Regional Conference on “ Privacy In the Digital Age”, to summarize by marking International Privacy Day.

The roundtable gathered panellists from the Independent Media Commission, Kosovo Press Council, Association of Professional Journalists of Kosovo, Kosovo Police, Centre for Policy and Advocacy, BIRN, the Ombudsperson, FOL movement, Kosovo Centre for Security Studies, etc.
The Regional Conference “Privacy in the Digital Age” held on January 27, 2015, opened by His Excellency Mr. Kadri Veseli - President of the Assembly of Kosovo, who praised the Agency for an organization of such dimension and spoke about the importance of data protection in Kosovo, as well as the legislative framework that empowers this field. The Chief National Supervisor, Mr. Ruzhdi Jashari, trough a welcome speech thanked all the participants, especially his counterparts from countries of the region and beyond, representatives of the European Union, Japan, Norway, as well as the representatives of Facebook, Google, Microsoft, Deloitte, Hewlett Packard, etc..
The panellists who were part of this event, presented the factual situation of their countries on the issue of data protection and privacy, a very important part and in the interest of not only to the Agency but also to all the participants, to more than 200 invited guests. Part of the panel, besides the abovementioned names were also local representatives of the Information Society Agency, the Kosovo Police, University of Pristina, UBT College, Illyria, representatives from Vala operator, Darts, etc. Their presentations in one form or another were pertaining to data protection and the use of technology in the modern digitized era.
At the conclusion of  Privacy Week, marking at the same time the “International Day of Privacy”, it was held a session of presentations by the representative of Facebook Ms. Gabriella Cseh, the Bulgarian representative Mr. Veselin Teselkov,  from Montenegro Mr. Muhamet Gjoka, and Mrs. Tanzer Abazi of Darts. As a second part of the conference was the presentation of the works of pupils of schools participating in the project, at the same time an evaluation of simulated work done by ethical hackers in detecting fragility of certain web pages. Teams of pupils, who developed the awareness campaign with their friends of the same age, were rewarded with scholarships, information technology, books, training, and so on.
The organizers of this project thanked all participants of the Privacy week activities for their contribution to this project, hoping for further cooperation and for other projects.
