Training on the Protection of Personal Data in Education Sector

National Agency for Protection of Personal Data, through planned trainings for this period together with EU IPA project has continued the second day of training on the topic about data protection in the field of education.
In this one-day training chaired by Mr. Ruzhdi Jashari, Chief State Supervisor, participated representatives from the Ministry of Education and representatives of the state and private universities.
During the discussion were drawn the conclusions that higher education institutions do not sufficiently respect the privacy of students. Publication of the data by educational institutions, according to their representatives, is done in the name of transparency. As Mr. Bekim Demiri, Deputy Chief State Supervisor stressed out, this that is being applied in the name of transparency, not only in educational institutions but in other institutions as well, constitutes a breach of privacy and misuse of personal data.
Part of the panel was Mr. Urmas Kukk, an expert within the EU project 'Support to Kosovo institutions in the field of protection of personal data', who, talking about the protection of data in the education sector, shared the experiences of his country.
‘If we say that children are under the custody of their parents, not necessarily they are protected, because according to general statistics in the world the majority of child abuses comes from family or close family circle, and less by strangers’, stressed out Mr. Urmas Kukk.
Present at the workshop was Mr. Azem Guri, adviser in the cabinet of the Minister of Education, Science and Technology, who, for the participants provided an overview of the current situation in the education sector in Kosovo.
This training cycle will be concluded on Thursday, where participants will be representatives from legal offices of the institutions of the Republic of Kosovo.
