NATIONAL AGENCY FOR PROTECTION OF PERSONAL DATA DISCLOSED ACHIEVEMENTS UPON THE THIRD ANNIVERSARY OF ITS ESTABLISHMENT

National Agency for Protection of Personal Data disclosed achievements upon the third anniversary of its establishment.
Today's event was marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Agency and the University College of Business and Technology - UBT, also, Chief National Supervisor handed out Certificate of Appreciations to some of the Data Protection Officers, from various public and private institutions in Kosovo, that were successful in their work.
Among many achievements of the Agency, it is worth noting that the Agency has produced its Work Directives in the field of Video surveillance, inspections in police, prosecution, judiciary and health care services. In addition, NAPPD signed a Memorandums of Cooperation with Macedonia, Albania, Montenegro, Slovenia, Croatia, Bulgaria, etc. Within the video surveillance field, NAPPD has equipped over 4,000 institutions with Video Surveillance warning signs, also, it has banned the use of biometric data in many cases, destroyed over 1,000,000 documents of mobile phone operators, performed more than 170 inspections of public institutions and private companies, has provided legal opinions on 96 acts, as well as informed Kosovo citizens about the importance of personal data protection.
National Agency for Protection of Personal Data, as an independent institution has legal responsibility for overseeing the implementation of the rules and regulations on protection of personal data. Advising public and private bodies, deciding on complaints submitted, inspections and audits, public information, as well as support and promotion of the fundamental rights in the field of personal data protection, are the main part of Agency`s scope. This way, the Agency wants to ensure that the right of each individual for privacy is respected and protected during personal data processing. International cooperation in relation to protection of personal data is an important part of the permanent mission of the Agency, given the priority of the Government of Kosovo towards EU integration.
The Agency, as of January 2014 is supported by the European Union with a budget of approximately € 1.4 million. EU project (IPA) assists the Agency in capacity building, as well as reforming and approximation of laws with those of the EU in the field of personal data protection, and more effective information of Kosovo`s citizens on their rights.
