Commissioner for Information and Privacy Ms. Krenare Sogojeva Dermaku, received the President of Association of Journalists of Kosovo (AJK) Mr. Xhemajl Rexha in the meeting on Friday.
Thanking Mr. Rexha for the visit, Commissioner pointed out that an Information and Privacy Agency, as responsible institution for monitoring and ensuring implementation of the Law on Access to Public Documents and the Law on Protection of Personal Data, considers as inevitable importance of cooperation with Association of Journalists of Kosovo.
During the present meeting was discussed the work of journalists, challenges and difficulties faced by this community, even when receiving a simple document from public institutions or publishing sensitive information or images without an appropriate approval of the exposed persons.
On the other hand, Commissioner has announced with. Rexha about this issue, that Agency has already launched an “Awareness Raising Campaign with Ministries”, by informing the public institutions on general obligations arising from the Law on Access to Public Documents, the category of public documents that should be open to them and the general public, with a proactive approach of the institutions themselves. Assessing public information as extremely important, Commissioner has emphasized the importance and at the same time sensitivity of publishing personal data and privacy of citizens, during the information; always on the basis of the Law on Protection of Personal Data.
For accurate information of citizens and at the same time respecting their rights and freedoms regarding the privacy, Ms. Sogojeva and Mr. Rexha agreed on continuous cooperation and mutual support.
