Workshop “Balancing the right to information and the right to privacy”

The Information and Privacy Agency, following the awareness activities, has organized a one-day workshop on the topic: “Balancing the Right to Information and the Right to Privacy” with the municipal officer for the protection of personal data, the officer for access to public documents, the state civil officer, personnel officer, public communication officer where various topics were addressed with a focus on the protection of personal data and access to public documents.

The meeting discussed aspects of legal regulation, the rights of data subjects, the authorizations and obligations of institutions, the procedures and measures determined during processing in the specific sector, such as in the educational field of the preschool level and the lower school level and secondary , processing in the health sector at the level of municipal responsibility, civil status sector, administration, etc. In the focus of the discussions, the implementation of the legislation on access to public documents was also addressed, such as the review of requests, the level of competence, procedural aspects up to decision-making within the municipalities, and the competences of the Agency in the supervision of the implementation of the relevant legislation were also disclosed.

The offices from the Municipality of Peja, the Municipality of Klina, the Municipality of Istog, the Municipality of Junik participated in the meeting, and despite the confirmations, the officials from the Municipality of Deçan and the Municipality of Gjakova were absent. The workshop was supported by the OSCE Mission in Kosovo.

The Information and Privacy Agency continued the cycle of one-day workshops focusing on the topic “Balancing the right to information and the right to privacy”, in Gjilan today

The event brought together municipal officials from various sectors involved in the protection of personal data and access to public documents. The workshop aimed to address the critical aspects of the legal regulation by the Commissioner for Information and Privacy, Mrs. Krenare Sogojeva Dërmaku, who spoke in detail about the rights of data subjects, institutional obligations and procedures, and measures during processing in specific sectors, such as education and health care. The implementation of the legislation on access to public documents was also discussed, including the review of requests, decision-making, and the powers of the agency in supervising the implementation of the relevant legislation.

AIP thanks OSCE for its support in organizing this event. Such seminars are useful in empowering our knowledge communities and ensuring that the right to information and the right to privacy are balanced. The agency will continue discussions and cooperation with other municipalities in Kosovo.
