THE LEGALITY OF ESTABLISHING THE CAMERA SURVEILLANCE SYSTEM PROTECTS THE PRIVACY OF CITIZENS

Prishtina, 08 April 2022,

The Information and Privacy Agency (IPA) in the framework of overseeing the implementation of Law no. 06 / L-082 on Personal Data Protection, has continued the inspection ex officio of the controller (16 businesses), regarding the legality of the processing of personal data through the camera surveillance system.

During the inspection process, IPA inspectors found that most controllers applied camera surveillance in violation of the Law on Personal Data Protection, not meeting the criteria provided by law. In this case, IPA has issued a decision to temporarily stop the processing of personal data through camera surveillance and has ordered the destruction of data collected through this system, until the date of receipt of the decision.

IPA, through the process of inspection and actions taken against controllers to meet the legal criteria for data processing through the camera surveillance system, protects the privacy of the citizens of the Republic of Kosovo and is at the service of citizens to realize their rights guaranteed by the Constitution and the Law on Personal Data Protection.

IPA, will continue with inspections and controls to monitor the legality of personal data processing, through the camera surveillance system throughout the territory of the Republic of Kosovo.
