In fulfilment of its legal obligations and the exercise of its mandate to protect the personal data of the citizens of the Republic of Kosovo, the Information and Privacy Agency (IPA) requests political parties to protect personal data during the electoral campaign for the elections scheduled for February 9, 2025.
In overseeing the implementation of the law, specifically the protection of citizens’ personal data, the Information and Privacy Agency has received complaints from citizens against political parties for the unauthorized use of citizens’ personal data through direct marketing, which cases have been addressed in accordance with the law.
To ensure the enforcement of the law for the protection of personal data, and simultaneously to avoid any actions by the Agency against political parties and entities involved in the electoral campaign process, the Agency requests political parties to comply with their legal obligations for the protection of citizens’ personal data by not exposing personal data during communication via email, SMS messages, and phone calls, without prior consent.
The Agency offers cooperation with political entities to ensure the respect of the right to personal data protection of the citizens of the Republic of Kosovo and calls for any personal information collected during the voter registration process, for communication with citizens during electoral campaign activities, to be used in compliance with legal requirements.
