On the occasion of the International Day for Universal Access to Information, the Agency for Information and Privacy symbolically opened the Week of Access to Public Documents with the motto “Together we strengthen transparency”

In cooperation with the American Embassy in Kosovo, the Agency for Information and Privacy (AIP) with a reduced agenda, opened the Week of activities to promote the right of access to public documents with the presence of representatives from civil society, journalists, and project representatives. that support the work of the Agency.
The first day of the Week for Access to Public Documents with the order “Strengthen transparency together” started with a minute of silence for the murdered police officer, Afrim Bunjaku.
The Commissioner for Information and Privacy, Krenare Sogojeva Dermaku, spoke about the importance of access to public documents and the implementation of the law in practice, who, among other things, emphasized that access to public documents is a legal obligation of public institutions to meet the requirement of accountability and transparency that they are also fundamental principles of democracy.
The Legal Counselor from the American Embassy in Pristina, John Hanley, also emphasized that access to public documents is essential for an open and democratic society, always respecting the principles for the protection of personal data. Among other things, he highly appreciated the work of the Information and Privacy Agency in promoting the right to access public documents.
The General Director of the Agency, Lumnije Demi, presented the statistical data regarding the number, profile of complaints and the institutions to which complaints were submitted for the realization of the right to access public documents during the three-year period, respectively from September 2021 to September 2023.
The activities of the Week for Access to Public Documents “Together we strengthen transparency” will continue throughout the four days with representatives of public institutions at the central and local level and independent institutions, representatives of the media and non-governmental organizations with the aim of promoting the right for access to information as well as joint discussion for overcoming difficulties in the realization of this right.
