The Information and Privacy Agency is participating in the Fourth Meeting of Authorities for Access to Public Documents “Initiative 2020”.

Upon the invitation of the Croatian Information Agency, the Commissioner for Information and Privacy, Krenare Sogojeva Dermaku, and the General Director, Lumnije Demi, are participating in the fourth meeting of the Authorities for Access to Public Documents “Initiative 2020” in Dubrovnik, Croatia.

Initiative 2020 convenes for the fourth time the Authorities for Access to Public Documents from the countries in the region to discuss access to public documents from a legal perspective and the implementation of the law, as well as the challenges and priorities in handling specific cases of access to information. With a particular focus, “Initiative 2020” has provided the opportunity for the exchange of experiences among representatives of participating regional countries on the standards applied in relation to the right to information, initiatives of responsible authorities to overcome challenges in the resolution of specific cases, and possible legal solutions.

Commissioner for Information and Privacy, Krenare Sogojeva Dermaku, stated that for the efficient realization of the right to access public documents, the Agency aims to intensify cooperation with public institutions in the preparation of internal regulations that would facilitate the processing and implementation of the right to access public documents, raising the realization of citizens’ rights to information to a higher level.

She also emphasized the need for cooperation with the countries in the region to share best practices in setting standards for the implementation of the right to access public documents, which would result in increased accountability of public institutions and the enhancement of the professional capacities of the Responsible Authorities for Access to Public Documents in the countries of the region.

At the fourth meeting of the Authorities for Access to Public Documents “Initiative 2020,” authorities for Access to Public Documents from Slovenia, North Macedonia, Serbia, Montenegro, and Croatia are participating.
