Workshop on Balancing the Right to Information and the Right to Privacy

The Agency for Information and Privacy, with the support of the OSCE Mission in Kosovo, organized a workshop on the topic “Balancing the Right to Information and the Right to Privacy”, in the Municipality of Hani i Elezit. The workshop brought together municipal officials from the Municipality of Han i Elezit, the Municipality of Ferizaj, the Municipality of Shtime, and the Municipality of Kaçanik, who were informed about the critical issues of the legal framework by the Commissioner for Information and Privacy, Mrs. Krenare Sogojeva-Dërmaku.

Commissioner Sogojeva-Dërmaku focused the discussion on the role of the official responsible for the protection of personal data and the importance of strengthening this role in every public institution. Among other things, she emphasized the balancing of transparency and protection of personal data, underlining the importance of anonymizing data during the publication of documents.

In relation to access to public documents, the Commissioner emphasized issues of public interest, in which case she discussed the proactive publication of public documents, which is a legal obligation that affects the strengthening of transparency and institutional accountability of municipalities.

The Mayor of Hani i Elez Municipality, Mr. Mehmet Ballazhi, congratulated the participants and organizers for the initiative, emphasizing that the organization of such events empowers public officials with knowledge and ensures that the rights of citizens, namely the right to information and the right to privacy, are effectively realized by the institutions.
