Public Warning – Beware of Online Scams

Pristina, August 29, 2025
The Information and Privacy Agency (IPA) has monitored and identified several cases of digital scams circulating on social media and online platforms, where the names of public figures, well-known businesses, and fake credit offers are being misused with the intent to deceive and unlawfully profit from citizens.
Based on public reports and our verifications, the most common forms of scams identified include:
· Misuse of artists’ images for fraudulent posts and advertisements.
· Fake credit offers in the name of well-known banks, requesting personal data from citizens.
· Fraudulent posts and videos promising gift vouchers in the name of major markets such as “VivaFresh,” “ETC,” and other well-known businesses.
· Fake online contests using logos of institutions and trusted companies to collect citizens’ data.
These activities not only violate privacy but also pose a serious risk to citizens’ financial security.
Considering the identified cases, IPA calls on citizens to:
✅ Check official sources
· Use only official websites and applications of institutions and businesses for information and services.
🔎 Verify credit and gift offers
· Any offer of credit with low interest rates, gifts, or “free” coupons must be confirmed directly with the relevant bank or company.
❌ Protect personal data
· Do not share personal information (personal ID number, banking details, passwords, and verification codes) on insecure sources.
🔐 Check website addresses
· Fraudulent websites often imitate official ones. Carefully check the URL (website link) and avoid clicking suspicious or misspelled links.
❌ Do not engage with suspicious content
· Games, quizzes, or videos promising instant winnings are used for online scams. Be cautious and do not click on them.
📢 Report scams
· Any suspicious page or content should be reported immediately on the respective platform (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok).
🔒 Strengthen digital protection
· Install technical protection (antivirus, firewall), use two-factor authentication (2FA), and avoid public Wi-Fi networks for banking access.
The Information and Privacy Agency is committed to protecting citizens’ personal data and security. We will continue to cooperate with relevant institutions to identify fraudulent websites and take legal measures against violators.
