Panel Discussion on the Right to Information and Privacy in the Digital World; The situation in the Western Balkans, organized by the Information and Privacy Agency in partnership with the Balkan Network of Investigative Journalism – BIRN

The Commissioner for Information and Privacy, Krenare Sogojeva Dermaku, in partnership with BIRN, co-organized a panel discussion, within the “Internet Freedom Meet 2024” Conference, which brought together government officials, civil society organizations, rights activists digital media, journalists and Internet technology and policy enthusiasts from all Western Balkan countries.
In the panel entitled “The Right to Information and Privacy in the Digital World; The situation in the Western Balkans’, the Commissioner, Sogojeva-Dermaku, together with Mr. Muhamed Gjokaj- Chairman of the Council at the Agency for the Protection of Personal Data Access to Information (Montenegro) and Mr. Eldi Sherifi – Inspector of the Directorate of Sectoral Investigation and Data Security in IDP (Albania), moderated by Jeta Xharra, discussed online disinformation and the challenges and opportunities of digital governance, addressing the role of technology in the provision of services and initiatives regional for maintaining privacy and protecting personal data in a digital environment.
The conference served to strengthen cooperation between authorities and organizations to increase transparency and awareness for media and political forums at the national, regional and international levels, regarding the protection of personal data in the Western Balkans.
