The Information and Privacy Commissioner, Mrs. Krenare Sogojeva Dërmaku, emphasized in her speech: “With the support of the EU Office, we have strengthened bilateral relations at the European level, playing a key role in the membership and representation of Kosovo in the European Data Protection Board (EDPB). This development has given Kosovo an active voice in European policy-making for personal data protection.”
Meanwhile, Mr. Jarmo Helppikangas, Head of the Rule of Law, Human Rights, and Legal Affairs Sector at the EU Office, highlighted the importance of shared responsibility for data protection. “The protection of personal data and fundamental human rights is not the task of just one institution. It is a collective responsibility, and the EU Office is ready to continue its support for Kosovo in this regard,” he said.
The Head of the International Cooperation Division, Mrs. Liridona Krasniqi Zeqiri, discussed the results of the cooperation between the AIP and the EU Office, which include activities aimed at strengthening inspection processes in the education, healthcare, and law enforcement sectors, organizing TAIEX missions, as well as study visits to exchange best practices with EU member states such as Latvia and Austria.
Regarding the role of civil society in advancing personal data protection, Mrs. Renata Bajrami from GLPS presented the results of the “Just React” project, particularly the drafting of internal acts and guidelines at the municipal level. Meanwhile, Mrs. Albulena Sadiku from BIRN Kosovo shared the successful experience of the “Promoting Digital Rights and Freedoms” project, an initiative aimed at improving digital rights not only in Kosovo but also in the Western Balkans region.
