The Commissioner for Information and Privacy, Krenare Sogojeva Dermaku, together with the Acting Director of the Department for Data Protection, Mr. Kushtrim Mustafa, and the Head of the Division for Complaints Review, Mr. Arbian Arifi, participated in the seventh meeting of the “Initiative 20i7”, held from 8–10 September in Ptuj, Slovenia. The event gathered representatives from data protection authorities of the region, serving as a platform to strengthen regional cooperation and to exchange challenges and experiences in the field of personal data protection.
At this meeting, Commissioner Sogojeva Dermaku emphasized the Agency’s commitment to keeping pace with technological developments, presenting the platform for the identification of personal data breaches, as well as the steps undertaken to harmonize Kosovo’s legal framework with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), Convention 108, and the European Law Enforcement Directive (LED).
In their joint statement, the members of Initiative 20i7 underlined the importance of mutual cooperation in times of rapid technological developments such as artificial intelligence, warning that the protection of human rights may be seriously undermined in the absence of an adequate response from regulators.
