The Information and Privacy Agency participated in the fifth meeting of Initiative 2020, which conference gathers authorities for access to public documents from countries in the region, with the aim of addressing legal and practical challenges in the field of access to public documents, as well as exchange of experiences among authorities for achievements in law enforcement.
Commissioner for Information and Privacy, Mrs. Krenare Sogojeva-Dërmaku, and the Head of the Division for Review of Complaints for Access to Public Documents, Mrs. Arbëri Hiseni, presented the Agency’s strategic priorities, highlighting the Transparency Program, which aims to promote the proactive publication of documents and facilitate access to information. During the meeting, Commissioner Sogojeva-Dërmaku informed the participants about the digitalization process of the Agency’s services, namely about the creation of a platform that will serve as a single address for citizens and interested parties to access public documents.
The participants of the conference, representatives from Slovenia, Croatia, North Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Montenegro, shared their challenges and experiences on the misuse of the right to access public documents, in which case the Commissioner emphasized that AIP has undertake a series of regulatory actions to clarify issues related to trade secrets and to promote the legal obligation to develop the harm and public interest test.
As a result of the discussions and the expression of interest on the part of the Agency to organize the next meeting, the participating authorities voted in favor of holding the Initiative 2020 in Kosovo for the year 2025, as well as for the selection of the Croatian authority as the Secretariat of the Initiative 2020.
