Commissioner for Information and Privacy, Mrs. Krenare Sogojeva-Dërmaku, participated in the panel “Privacy and Identity Protection” during the round table organized by the Independent Media Commission (IMC), which dealt with the issue of protecting children in the media

In her speech, Commissioner Sogojeva-Dërmaku emphasized the importance of legal processing of children’s personal data, underlining that these data are sensitive and require special protection according to the Law on Personal Data Protection. Among other things, she introduced the practices of surveillance with cameras and photographing of children with the consent of the parents, ensuring compliance with the legislation in force.
In order to apply security measures for the storage of this data, the Commissioner stressed that the media should draw up a guide on the impact of the publication of children’s personal data in order to ensure that all sensitive data are treated with due care for avoid their uncontrolled exposure in the media.
Representatives of various institutions and organizations participated in this event, including: the Ombudsman Institution, the Office for Good Governance, the Council of Written Media of Kosovo (KMSHK), the Association of Journalists of Kosovo (AGK), Radio Television and Kosovo (RTK), the University of Pristina (UP), the Coalition of NGOs for the Protection of Children (KOMF) and the organization Terre des Hommes Kosovo (TDH).
Various topics were discussed during the round table, including:
– Protection of children from media content;
– Educational programs and responsible ethical reporting;
– The role of civil society in the protection of children.
Participating institutions and organizations pledged to strengthen cooperation among themselves in order to protect children’s rights.
