AIP calls on Political Parties and Entities to respect the privacy and protection of citizens’ personal data during the local elections

One day before the local elections in Kosovo, the Information and Privacy Agency (AIP) reiterates its call to Political Parties and Entities to protect citizens’ personal data during the local elections to be held on October 12, 2025.
To ensure electoral integrity, respect for privacy, and protection of the personal data of the citizens of the Republic of Kosovo, AIP calls on Political Parties and Entities to:
🔹ensure that any processing of personal data is carried out on a lawful basis, such as the citizens’ consent, the legitimate interest of the political entity, or other grounds defined by law;
🔹not use citizens’ contact data collected during the exercise of public functions or through other means for political marketing purposes;
🔹not expose personal data during communication via e-mail, messages (SMS), or phone calls, without prior consent;
🔹respect citizens’ right to object at any time to the use of their data for direct marketing and immediately cease communication upon receiving such objection;
🔹avoid any form of profiling or mass processing of sensitive data, except in cases where a clear legal basis exists and appropriate protective measures have been taken, including prior impact assessments on personal data where necessary;
🔹ensure full transparency towards citizens regarding the way their data are processed by publishing clear, simple, and easily accessible privacy policies.
The Agency offers cooperation with Political Parties and Entities to ensure the protection of citizens’ personal data of the Republic of Kosovo and calls on Political Parties and Entities to ensure that, during the local elections, citizens’ personal data are protected and safeguarded in accordance with legal requirements.
