The Information and Privacy Agency, the Office of the Chief State Prosecutor, the Kosovo Police, the Police Inspectorate of Kosovo, and the Association of Journalists of Kosovo have signed an Inter-Institutional Cooperation Agreement for the protection of personal data in the context of public communication.

The Information and Privacy Agency (IPA), the Office of the Chief State Prosecutor (OCSP), the Kosovo Police (KP), the Police Inspectorate of Kosovo (PIK), and the Association of Journalists of Kosovo (AJK) signed an Inter-Institutional Cooperation Agreement to protect personal data and uphold the right to privacy in the context of public communication and media reporting.
The heads of institutions — Krenare Sogojeva Dërmaku, Commissioner for Information and Privacy (IPA); Besim Kelmendi, Acting Chief State Prosecutor (OCSP); Gazmend Hoxha, Director General (KP); Kushtrim Hodaj, Chief Executive Officer (PIK); and Xhemajl Rexha, Chair of the Board (AJK) — committed to implementing Law No. 06/L-082 on the Protection of Personal Data, emphasizing the need to respect the right to freedom of expression and the protection of citizens’ personal data during media reporting.
Within the framework of this agreement, the institutions will work to prevent unauthorized publication of personal data in the media and public, take measures to strengthen the sub-legal regulatory framework of institutions for personal data protection, and enhance the professional capacities of institutional officials and media representatives.
The agreement signed today reflects the joint inter-institutional commitment to guarantee the right to privacy and personal data protection, based on democratic standards of media freedom and public information, safeguarding the integrity of investigative and judicial processes, and promoting professional journalism in accordance with journalistic ethics.
The agreement aims to address concerns regarding the dissemination or publication of personal data in the media and to third parties, except in cases where such actions are based on a clear legal provision or a special authorization by the competent judicial authority.
As part of its implementation, the institutions will establish a Joint Coordinating Group to monitor its enforcement and undertake actions to fulfill the tasks and institutional responsibilities for the protection of the personal data of the citizens of the Republic of Kosovo.
