The Information and Privacy Agency calls on the media to preserve and respect citizens’ privacy when reporting from the premises of “Adem Jashari” Airport in Pristina

The Information and Privacy Agency (IPA) has received notifications and concerns raised by citizens of the Republic of Kosovo who use Pristina International Airport “Adem Jashari” as a travel destination, regarding the presence of media and journalists in the airport premises and the publication of recorded footage.

Recognising the essential role of the media in informing the public, the Agency calls on the media to respect the legal obligations set out in Law No. 06/L-082 on the Protection of Personal Data, specifically the privacy of passengers in the premises of Pristina International Airport “Adem Jashari.”

The Agency urges the media, during their reporting, to:

🔸respect the protection of citizens’ privacy, especially in sensitive personal or family situations;
🔸avoid recording or publishing without obtaining citizens’ consent;
🔸coordinate filming or interviews with the relevant airport authorities;
🔸refrain from sensational reporting that could undermine the dignity or personal rights of passengers.

In cases where journalists have the consent of the interviewee to record them, the publication of footage that includes other individuals in motion should be handled with care if such persons may appear in focus without their consent.

The Agency calls on the media to conduct their activities and inform the public in accordance with legal and ethical standards, and remains available to provide professional support in implementing the legal obligations for the protection of personal data of the citizens of the Republic of Kosovo.
