The Information and Privacy Agency confiscates unauthorized video surveillance equipment in North Mitrovica

A vehicle with foreign license plates was stopped by the Kosovo Police on 5 September 2025 on “Knjaz Miloš” street in North Mitrovica. During the inspection carried out by the police authorities, surveillance and GPS equipment was identified inside the vehicle without the necessary authorization.
Following the official notification from the Kosovo Police (KP), the Information and Privacy Agency (IPA) conducted an inspection of the identified equipment, in order to assess the legality of the processing of personal data through such devices.
During the inspection, IPA inspectors confirmed that the vehicle was equipped with:
• Two professional recording cameras,
• One DVR device for storing video data,
• One monitor for displaying real-time footage.
These devices constitute tools for the processing of personal data, installed in violation of the principles and provisions of Law No. 06/L-082 on the Protection of Personal Data, specifically without any legal basis that would justify such processing.
The Information and Privacy Agency emphasizes that any video surveillance without a legal basis and without meeting the criteria set out by law constitutes a violation and, as such, is punishable.
