Under the patronage of the Information and Privacy Agency, the European Workshop on Case Handling in the Field of Freedom of Information was held for the first time in the Republic of Kosovo on April 7–8, 2025. This high-level professional and inter-institutional event brought together representatives from 14 European countries, including counterpart institutions on access to public documents from Austria, Croatia, Germany, Hungary, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Portugal, Scotland, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, Albania, as well as the European Ombudsman.
The event was opened by the Commissioner of the Information and Privacy Agency, Mrs. Krenare Sogojeva Dërmaku, who emphasized the importance of this platform in strengthening mechanisms that guarantee freedom of information and promote open access to public documents, as a fundamental basis for building transparent, accountable institutions that serve citizens.
Throughout the two-day program, participants presented practical cases and exchanged experiences on:
Best European practices in access to public documents;
Transparency in public expenditure and procurement processes;
Balancing the right to information with the protection of trade secrets and intellectual property.
Through this event, Kosovo reaffirmed its commitment as a reliable partner in the promotion of citizens’ fundamental rights and its dedication to contributing to the development of a democratic environment grounded in transparency, institutional accountability, and equal access to public information.
The workshop concluded with a commemorative visit to the Prekaz Memorial Complex, as a gesture of respect toward Kosovo’s history and state-building journey. In this context, the Information and Privacy Agency expresses its sincere gratitude to all participants for their professional contribution and commitment to strengthening international cooperation in advancing national standards in line with the best European practices.
