On July 21, 2024, the Commissioner for Information and Privacy, Mrs. Krenare Sogojeva Dërmaku participated in the Summer School on Misinformation in the Justice System, which was organized by BIRN Kosova with the support of Justice Activity/USAID.
This initiative aims to combat disinformation and misinformation about the justice system by educating the public on the effects of false information and the importance of accurate reporting.
During the panel on “Security of Personal Data and Publication of Information”, Commissioner Sogojeva Dërmaku discussed the importance of ensuring access to public documents, emphasizing that the realization of this right promotes an open and well-informed society.
In particular, the Commissioner discussed the protection of personal data during the work of journalists, in which case she emphasized that journalism has an essential role in informing the public, but at the same time journalists must respect the right to privacy of individuals to ensure the balance between transparency and personal data protection.
Commissioner Sogojeva Dermaku called on the participants for a joint commitment towards strengthening transparency and accountability and protection of personal data. In this case, the participants highlighted the need for continuous training in order to apply the highest standards of ethical reporting according to the Law on Protection of Personal Data and the Law on Access to Public Documents.
