The Agency for Information and Privacy, with the support of the OSCE, organized an informative meeting in North Mitrovica, with the participation of media representatives and non-governmental organizations of the Serbian community.

The Commissioner for Information and Privacy, Krenare Sogojeva Dërmaku, discussed the importance of ensuring access to public documents and the protection of personal data as two essential aspects in strengthening transparency and increasing institutional accountability. Appreciating the indispensable role of the media and NGOs in promoting a more transparent and responsible society, the Commissioner called on the participants to take a more active role in promoting the realization of these two rights of citizens.
Mexhide Demolli, the Executive Director of the Speak Movement, was also a panellist, who presented the challenges that civil society faces in relation to access to public documents, namely the silence and non-response of the institutions. This can consequently negatively affect the ability of civil society to oversee governance and contribute to democratic processes. She also emphasized the importance of informing citizens about their rights, guaranteed by the Personal Data Protection Law.
Hoping that the shared knowledge and perspectives will further help the cause of the Agency for the protection of personal data and access to public documents, the Commissioner for Information and Privacy, Krenare Sogojeva Dërmaku, thanked everyone for participating in this meeting.
